On April 25, the world celebrates World Malaria Day

Globally, there are an estimated 249 million malaria cases and 608,000 malaria deaths in 85 countries in 2022. The WHO African Region accounts for a disproportionate share of the global malaria burden. In 2022, 94% (233 million) of malaria cases and 95% (580 000) of malaria deaths occurred in this region. About 80% of all malaria deaths in this region were in children under five years of age. In Kazakhstan, all malaria cases are imported.

The Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases organized a round table discussion with 4th year students of the Faculty of General Medicine as part of World Malaria Day. The students of the 490 foreign group prepared a video and presented presentations. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness and improve understanding of global efforts to ensure effective control of this parasitic disease. The meeting participants discussed the global malaria control strategy for the period 2016-2030 and effective measures to prevent the spread of the disease. Actualized an important success of prevention as vaccination of children under 5 years of age in the countries of equatorial Africa.

The key aspect of this intervention is that preventing the emergence of malaria is much easier than treating this serious disease. It should be remembered that the more carefully the rules of malaria prevention are followed, the less likely you are to contract this dangerous disease. Consequently, every general practitioner should remember that a patient with prolonged febrile fever should be examined for a group of febrile diseases, including Plasmodium malariae in a thick drop of blood.
