International Herpes Week is held every year from 16 to 23 November in many countries around the world. This event is designed to draw public attention to herpes infection and increase public awareness about herpes viruses.

The initiator of the week of herpesvirus infections in NJSC "Astana Medical University" was the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after. Sh.I. Sarbasova.

This year, the department held a series of events, explaining that herpes is a common disease that can develop in any person, regardless of gender, nationality, social and financial status. Particular attention was paid to the features of reproduction, antigenic structure, laboratory diagnosis of herpesvirus infections, since the main contingent of students at the department studies this problem from the point of view of medical virology.

Based on this, the department organized a poster competition using the methods "Reference signals and symbols" and "Mind map".

The award took place on December 1, 2022 as part of a conference on HIV infection. Congratulatory words were made by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova - Dusmagambetov M.U., the winners of the award were presented by Ph.D., Professor of the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova - Asemova G.D.

Herpes can change a person's life, sometimes - slightly, and sometimes - dramatically. Currently, the possibilities of diagnostics are expanding, effective methods of treating this disease have been developed. Currently, special attention in practical healthcare is paid to cytomegalovirus infection, Epstein-Barr virus, Varicella-Zoster virus and other types of herpesviruses.
