History of establishment
Department of Ophthalmology was established in September 1965 at Tselinograd State Medical Institute. The management of the Department has been assigned to A.A.Kudryashova, who directed the department until 1968. The basis of the department was the eye department of the regional hospital with 30 beds.
From 1969 to 1984 the department was directed by PhD Golenkov Arthur Konstantinovich. His main research focused on Neuropathy. Gained notoriety his monograph devoted to the study of venous pulse with stagnant nipples. As assistant chair worked c.m.s. Rodionov Y.M, c.m.s.Z.Ya. Sokolov, c.m.s.Ahmedyanova Z.U.
From 1985 to 1987 the department in directed of the c.m.s., Associate Professor Sokolova Zelma. From 1987 to 2008 the department was headed by c.m.s. professor Zeynet Ugubaevna Ahmedyanova. From 2009 to 2011 Ophthalmology was part of the Department of surgical disciplines, since 2012 - Department of ENT and eye diseases. All this time the course is directed by Professor of Ophthalmology Ahmedyanova Z.U. In 2019, the course of eye diseases was separated from the Department of ENT diseases and became an independent Department. Acting head of the Department of eye diseases Professor, Ph. D. Akhmedyanova Z. U.

The department conducted teaching on discipline "Ophthalmology" in the next specialties:

The teachers of the department also conducts postgraduate training of ophthalmologists on advanced training cycles on topical problems of ophthalmology, as well as retraining of doctors in the specialty "Ophthalmology (adult, children)".
Achievements
At the department until 2007 there was only training in clinical ordinatura. Since 2008, the department has opened a residency, since 2010 a doctoral degree, since 2011 a master's degree. The Department of Eye Diseases has trained 43 doctors in internship, 12 doctors in clinical residency, 189 in residency, 2 in master's degree, 3 in doctoral studies. Currently, 71 residents are ordinatura,, 1 doctoral student, 1 master's student have been tested. The staff of the Department of Eye Diseases published more than 1028 articles and theses in foreign and national scientific publications, published more than 230 methodological recommendations for doctors, 399 acts of implementation of medical science achievements in practical healthcare. The textbook "Ophthalmology" by Egorov has been translated into Kazakh. Employees participate in all national and international conferences.
Educational and methodological manuals have been published: "Emergency conditions in ophthalmology", "Types of ametropia, their correction", "Selected sections of ophthalmopathology"; "Glaucoma", "Basic research methods in ophthalmology" in Russian, Kazakh and English. Every year, work programs, syllabuses and other educational and methodological documentation are processed in accordance with state mandatory standards, standard and working curricula of specialties, standard and working curricula of disciplines. The Department of Eye Diseases closely cooperates with leading research institutions both in Kazakhstan and abroad, actively participates in academic mobility programs. Students, residents and undergraduates of the department studied at leading universities and research centers in Russia, the Baltic States and Kazakhstan. Students at the department undergo practical training in all leading clinics of the capital. The clinical bases of the Department of Eye Diseases are the departments of eye microsurgery of MPH No. 3, City Hospital No. 2, Children City Hospital No. 2, a branch of the Kazakh Research Institute of Eye diseases, the Center for Vision Restoration, the Astana Vision Clinic and others.
