From September 28 to October 2, 2026, Astana Medical University hosted Mojtaba Vaismoradi, an international expert in nursing science, patient safety and research methodology, as part of its Visiting Professor programme. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences at Nord University (Norway) and is also an Adjunct Research Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University (Australia). The visit was organised by the School of Nursing in collaboration with the Department of Nursing.
Professor Vaismoradi has authored and co-authored numerous research publications in leading international journals, including the Journal of Advanced Nursing, the International Journal of Nursing Studies and the International Nursing Review.
His research interests cover a range of key areas, including the prevention of medical errors, improving the quality of nursing care, medication management and the integration of evidence-based approaches into clinical practice. He has a particular focus on qualitative research methods, which provide deeper insights into the experiences of patients and healthcare professionals, as well as the factors influencing the safety of healthcare delivery.
During his visit, Professor Vaismoradi delivered a five-day educational seminar for university faculty members and students entitled “Qualitative Research Methodology: Approaches, Data Collection, and Analysis with a Focus on Qualitative Content Analysis and Thematic Analysis.” Participants explored contemporary methods of collecting and analysing research data, the specific features of qualitative content analysis and thematic analysis, and the principles of interpreting and presenting research findings.
The visit also marked a continuation of his research collaboration with Kazakhstan. In 2025, a joint paper by Professor Vaismoradi and Kazakhstani researchers was published in the International Nursing Review. The study focused on assessing patient safety culture in nursing practice across healthcare institutions in Kazakhstan.
Strengthening international research partnerships and sharing advanced research expertise create new opportunities for Kazakhstani professionals, enhance the research capacity of nursing science and support the introduction of modern approaches into the healthcare system.
