ABOUT US
The Research Institute of Preventive Medicine named after Academician Y.D. Dalenov (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) was established on April 6, 2023. The Institute’s primary mission is to conduct scientific and educational activities and to develop research and experimental projects in the field of preventive medicine.
The concept of establishing the Institute belongs to Academician Yerbolat Derbisaliyevich Dalenov, one of the founders of preventive medicine in the Republic of Kazakhstan, an honored scientist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, distinguished educator, and a recognized authority in healthcare and life sciences.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND OF ACADEMICIAN Y.D. DALENOV
Academician Yerbolat Dalenov was among the first graduates of Astana Medical University, formerly known as the Tselinograd Medical Institute, graduating in 1969. Upon completion of his medical education, Yerbolat Derbisaliyevich was admitted to a targeted postgraduate program in pathological physiology at Rostov Medical Institute (Rostov-on-Don). In 1972, he defended his Candidate of Medical Sciences dissertation, and in 1993, he successfully defended his Doctor of Medical Sciences dissertation in Tomsk.
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Nutrition Science, Yerbolat Derbisaliyevich Dalenov was the initiator of the establishment of the Research Institute of Preventive Medicine. He was an Honorary Academician of the Academy of Preventive Medicine and the Academy of Valeology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, and a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Professor Yerbolat Derbisaliyevich Dalenov devoted his entire professional career to Astana Medical University, progressing from Assistant Lecturer to Head of Department and Dean. He authored more than 450 scientific publications, including 42 books, 10 monographs, textbooks on valeology, biology, and nutrition science in Kazakh and Russian for secondary and higher educational institutions, as well as reference manuals for physicians and researchers.
Yerbolat Derbisaliyevich was also the author of 18 inventions and innovative proposals. He mentored a distinguished generation of researchers and scholars. Under his supervision, 5 doctoral dissertations, 24 Candidate of Medical Sciences dissertations, more than 15 master’s theses, and 4 PhD dissertations were successfully defended.
Leonid Zigmontovich Tell is a Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Kazakhstan, Academician of the Academy of Preventive Medicine of Kazakhstan, President of the Academy of Valeology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a Full Member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
He is the author of more than 250 scientific publications, including over 20 monographs and textbooks, as well as more than 25 inventions. His textbooks, books, and inventions are widely used both nationally and internationally and have been translated into English and Hungarian.
Leonid Z. Tell was born in 1942 in the settlement of Zhana-Arka, Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan. In 1965, he graduated with honors from the Karaganda State Medical Institute. Since 1965, he has been affiliated with the Akmola Medical Institute.
Between 1965 and 1967, he served as a research trainee at three research institutions located in Tselinograd, Karaganda, and Novosibirsk. In 1967, he defended his Candidate of Medical Sciences dissertation in Novosibirsk, and in 1983, he successfully defended his Doctor of Medical Sciences dissertation in Moscow.
Since 1968, Professor Tell has been actively engaged in scientific, clinical, and academic activities, serving as a senior emergency physician, Associate Professor of the Department of Pathophysiology, Head of the Department of Physiology, and Head of the Clinical Pathophysiology Course.
He also worked under contract at universities in the United States, where his inventions have been applied in practice. Under his supervision, 11 Candidates of Medical Sciences and 3 Doctors of Medical Sciences have successfully completed their academic training.
Academician Toregeldi Sharmanovich Sharmanov plays a huge role in the development of preventive medicine.
SHARMANOV TOREGELDY SHARMANOVICH – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, President of the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition and the Academy of Preventive Medicine of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Nutrition of JSC "MUA".
Academician Sharmanov T.Sh.
After graduating from the Karaganda State Medical Institute with honors in 1955 and postgraduate studies (1958-1962), he worked as the chief physician of the Ulytau central district hospital of the Karaganda region. From 1962 to 1968 Head of the Nutrition Department of the Research Institute of Regional Pathology of the Ministry of Health of the Kazakh SSR. From 1968 to 1971 - rector of the Aktobe State Medical Institute, at the same time headed the department of pharmacology.
From 1971 to 1982 served as Minister of Health of the Kazakh SSR.
From 1973 to the present, T. Sh. Sharmanov is the founder and President of the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition.
Since May 1995 - founder and president of the Academy of Preventive Medicine of Kazakhstan.
Since 1997, Toregeldy Sharmanovich has been the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Health and Disease”.
Under his leadership, 40 doctoral and 135 candidate dissertations were defended. T. Sh. Sharmanov is the author of about 460 publications, including 38 monographs and 40 inventions. He was elected to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan three times.
In 2001, T. Sharmanov became a laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science and technology for a series of works by a team of authors: “Development of fundamental and applied aspects of nutrition science in the Republic” (for the period 1974 to 2000).
T. Sh. Sharmanov has been an Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 2001 and a laureate of the independent award “Platinum Tarlan in the Science category” (2003).
In 2005, for his outstanding contribution to global health, he received WHO's highest award - the Medal. Leon Bernard. Awarded a memorial sign from the UN CHILDREN'S FUND for his special contribution to improving the situation of children and protecting their rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan (2007).
