Kazakhstan is the 9th largest country in the world. It is a huge place with a very small population of only 19 million people. Kazakhstan gained independence on December 16.
It is the largest landlocked country in the world, with Russia to the north, China to the west, Uzbekistan to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west.
Kazakhstan is a multicultural country with more than 130 ethnic groups and nationalities, including Kazakhs, Russians, Koreans, Germans, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Uzbeks, Poles and Lithuanians.
By all accounts, apples come from Kazakhstan, and there are still orchards of wild apple trees in the country.
Kazakhstan is rich in minerals and resources (goods).
Kazakhstan hosted the exhibition Expo 2017 "Energy of the Future".
Lake Balkhash, one of the largest lakes in the world, has unique qualities. One-half of the water remains salty while the other half of the lake has fresh water.
The highest point in Kazakhstan is Mount Khan Tengri of the Tien Shan Range. At 23,000 feet (7,010 m), it is also the northernmost elevation in the world at 7,000 m. The lowest point in Kazakhstan is the bottom of the Karagie Depression at 433 feet (132 m) below sea level. Located to the east of the Caspian Sea, it is one of the lowest elevations on earth.

The idea of the capital's name came to Nursultan Nazarbayev in the middle of the night.
“There were all sorts of opinions on how to name the capital: Kazakhstan, or Ishim, or Saryarka. Usually I think well at night when sleep does not come. I always have a tape recorder or a notebook nearby, I immediately write it down so as not to forget. And the idea came to me to name Astana," the Head of State recalled during an interview with the Kazakh media in March 2017.
