Training for scientific supervisors of undergraduates and doctoral students

From 29 January to 2 February, a training session for supervisors of undergraduate and postgraduate students was held at the University: "Scientific supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students". The lecturers of the training were G.A. Derbisalina, Head of the Department of General Practice and Evidence-Based Medicine, A.T. Umbetzhanova, Associate Professor of the Department of General Practice and Evidence-Based Medicine, and S. Bakhtiyar, Associate Research Professor of the Department of Public Health and Hygiene.

During the training, scientific supervisors gained valuable knowledge and skills necessary for effective scientific leadership. The training included lectures, discussions and problem solving.

At the seminar, the lecturers informed the participants about the basic principles of scientific work, research methods, the main tasks and functions of the supervisor, shared their knowledge and experience in the field of scientific management and about the possibilities of finding funding and grants for scientific research. Special attention was given to the formulation of research questions, the choice of research methodology, data analysis and the publication of research results in scientific journals. The ethical aspects of biomedical research, the specificities of working with undergraduate and postgraduate students, and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to scientific activity were also discussed.

The training participants actively participated in the discussions, asked questions and shared their experiences. The training was very useful and interesting and all participants received certificates at the end of the training.

Academic leadership training is an important element in creating the conditions for high-quality scientific activity at the University. It helps scientific supervisors develop their skills and knowledge and improves the quality of students' scientific research.

In total, Astana Medical University currently runs 10 master's degree programmes with 165 undergraduate students and 5 doctoral degree programmes with 102 doctoral students. In addition, in the current academic year, more than 1,500 students have enrolled in the programmes of continuous integrated medical education, which, in addition to the bachelor's degree programme, require the completion of the master's degree programme and a master's degree. The University is also planning to launch a programme of continuous postgraduate education, including the development of residency and doctoral studies by students at the same time. All of this means that it is very important for the University to provide proper scientific guidance for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Such training will be provided on a regular basis to support and develop the scientific activities of the University. All this contributes significantly to the development of the scientific community and the training of highly qualified personnel in the field of medicine and science.
