Psychological Training Sessions at the Dormitories of NpJSC “Astana Medical University”

On September 20 and 24, 2024, two psychological training sessions were successfully held at the dormitories located at G. Potanin Street 9 and Zhenis Street 35. The purpose of these sessions was to foster student unity, develop emotional self-regulation skills, help participants get to know each other better, and create an atmosphere of trust while facilitating the adaptation of first-year students to the new learning environment.

The primary goal of the events was to create an atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding among the participants. The sessions also aimed to help the students become acquainted with each other and discuss their motivations for choosing their profession. First-year students took part in the trainings, sharing their stories and expectations about their future profession.

          1.       Role-playing Game “Let’s Get to Know Each Other” – Participants shared their professional choices and interests. Non-traditional methods such as symbolic name representations and team exercises that promote unity were used.

          2.       Emotional Self-Regulation in Conflict Situations Training – Participants learned how to manage their emotions in stressful situations using breathing techniques, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral methods.

Students were actively engaged in both sessions and left numerous positive reviews. On sticky notes, they shared their impressions and suggested topics for future events. Some of the proposals included courses on stress management, time management, as well as training on developing communication skills and emotional intelligence.

The events were highly successful, contributing not only to group unity but also to the development of important emotional management skills. These training sessions highlighted the need for regular meetings of this kind for students. We plan to incorporate participants’ suggestions into the program for future trainings, continuing to develop emotional resilience and effective communication skills in students.
