On the eve of March 8, Professor Bakhyt Kosherova, from the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Astana Medical University, was honored with the prestigious state award – the "Qurmet" Order. The award was presented on behalf of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan by Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova.
Professional Journey and Achievements
Bakhyt Nurgaliyevna is one of Kazakhstan’s leading specialists in infectious diseases. Graduating with honors from Karaganda State Medical Institute in 1990, she has dedicated her career to scientific research, teaching, and medical practice.
Her professional accomplishments include:
- Deputy Chair of the Board of the Public Association "Society of Infectious Disease Physicians"
- Member of the Council of the "Union of Independent Experts of KSMU"
- Independent Academic Expert for Medical Education Accreditation
- WHO Expert on COVID-19 and Infectious Diseases
- Author of more than 170 scientific publications, including international studies
- Developer of over 40 clinical protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, including the national COVID-19 protocol recognized by WHO
Contributions to Medicine and Education
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bakhyt Nurgaliyevna played a key role in developing and updating clinical protocols, training over 50,000 doctors, and providing consultative support to critically ill patients. Under her leadership, training programs, master classes, and on-site visits to COVID hospitals were organized.
She continues her active role in education, training new specialists in infectious diseases, consulting on complex cases, and participating in scientific projects on immunity, viral infections, and drug efficacy.
Scientific and Research Activities
Bakhyt Nurgaliyevna leads and participates in research projects on infectious diseases, immunity, and pharmacology. Some of the current studies include:
- The impact of ascariasis on the reproductive health of women of childbearing age
- Herd immunity to measles and hepatitis B virus
- Post-marketing studies on the effectiveness of drugs for treating acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI)
