As part of the academic mobility and student exchange program, from March 17 to 28 March 2025, the department of “Surgical diseases, bariatric surgery, and neurosurgery” at Astana Medical University hosted classes on the discipline "Fundamentals of General Surgery" for fourth-year students of the "Dentistry" educational program. The course was conducted by Nurpeis Tleuzhanov candidate of medical sciences, senior lecturer of the department of “Fundamental medical sciences” at the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Ahmet Yassawi.
Innovative Approach to Learning
During the training sessions, Nurpeis Kudaybergenovich employed the modern Case-Based Learning (CBL) methodology, which is based on the analysis of clinical cases. This format enabled students not only to gain a deeper understanding of theoretical material but also to practice diagnostic skills, treatment planning, and the selection of optimal surgical strategies. The examination of real clinical situations helped students better grasp the key principles of general surgery and develop critical thinking.
The lessons were structured around active student interaction and teamwork, fostering the development of professional competencies essential for a successful medical career. The lecturer's individualized approach to each student created a comfortable educational environment, encouraging discussion, clarification of complex topics, and reinforcement of acquired knowledge.
Results and Feedback
At the end of the course, students expressed their sincere gratitude to Nurpeis Kudaybergenovich for his professionalism, clear explanations, and engaging presentation of the material. They noted that the training was a valuable experience, allowing them not only to deepen their knowledge of general surgery but also to boost their confidence in their professional preparation. In turn, the lecturer highly praised the students' engagement and enthusiasm, acknowledging their strong academic background and dedication to mastering medical science.
