On the eve of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Astana Medical University hosted a meeting with Kazakh writer and publicist Zhan Akzhanov.

The writer presented his book titled «The Last Soldiers» to the university’s students. The work is dedicated to the veterans of the Second World War. In «The Last Soldiers», the author attempts to answer questions such as: «What is true friendship? What does it mean to love one’s homeland?» The book tells the story of two main characters who carried the memories of the hardships of wartime throughout their lives.

«It is important to understand that the more time passes, the more these events are forgotten. I don’t want this to be forgotten, because there was once a motto: «No one is forgotten – nothing is forgotten» — and that’s the truth. While writing this book, it was truly difficult. I had to study historical data about Stalingrad and the Battle of Stalingrad. I believe that through books, films, monuments, and sculptures, the memory of the war will remain alive, and this way we can pass on the recollections of wartime to future generations», – noted Zhan Akzhanov.

Participants warmly welcomed the author and showed great interest in his book. They actively asked questions, and the meeting took place in the format of an open dialogue.
