Astana Medical University is actively developing international cooperation, opening new opportunities for professional growth for foreign students. The summer internship at the department of microbiology and virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova became a vivid example of academic mobility and exchange of experience among future doctors from different countries.
As part of the SCOPE (KazMSA) professional exchange program, the university welcomed students from Türkiye, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Egypt, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic.
The practical training was conducted by Professor Gulzhan Asemova and Senior Lecturer, Master of Medicine, Madina Botbayeva. The specially designed program included the study of bacterial morphology and physiology, mechanisms of infection and immunity, bacterial and viral infections of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, as well as zoonotic and anaerobic diseases.
Foreign students not only acquired fundamental knowledge but also gained practical skills: they studied microorganisms under the microscope, performed inoculations on nutrient media, and became acquainted with modern methods of determining bacterial sensitivity to antibiotics.
A particular highlight was the excursion to the bacteriological laboratory of City Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 1 in the capital. Here, students learned about the principles of microorganism identification using the Vitek system and gained insight into the specifics of a modern laboratory. The university expresses its gratitude to bacteriologist, Candidate of Biological Sciences, S.K. Bisimbayeva for her assistance and professional guidance.
To enhance the effectiveness of learning, interactive methods were applied, including “brainstorming,” the game “Who Will Score 100 Points,” and others. These activities helped participants demonstrate their knowledge, communication skills, and team spirit.
At the conclusion of the internship, the foreign students expressed deep appreciation to Kazakhstan, Astana Medical University, the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova, and the faculty members, emphasizing the significance of the experience gained for their future medical practice.
