Astana Medical University has taken an important step toward strengthening its international authority by participating for the first time in the annual conference of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE 2025). This large-scale event in the field of medical science and pedagogy brought together more than 3,000 participants from all over the world and became a platform for the exchange of advanced experience, innovative approaches, and strategies for the development of medical education.
Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation Ayan Mysaev represented the university among the participants of this prestigious conference. One of the key topics of AMEE 2025 was the application of artificial intelligence in medical education. Universities presented their developments and discussed the possibilities of generative AI in assessment, the creation of educational materials, and the design of curricula.
Symposia and workshops demonstrated that artificial intelligence is already transforming the training of future specialists – from creating adaptive educational trajectories to supporting decision-making in clinical practice.
Separate sessions were dedicated to global challenges: forced migration, climate change, and instability in healthcare. Speakers emphasized that medical education must adapt rapidly to new realities so that graduates are prepared to work in conditions of crisis and transformation. An important focus was on sustainable development, inclusivity, and equal access to medical education, which are directly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Participation in AMEE 2025 opens new opportunities for Astana Medical University. The university plans to expand its international partnerships, sign memoranda of cooperation with leading European universities, and engage in joint research projects.
The experience gained will serve as a basis for updating educational programs. A decision has already been made to modernize the teaching course for university faculty, with the further goal of making it available to all medical universities of Kazakhstan via the Coursera platform. This will enhance the accessibility of modern education and improve the quality of future physicians’ training.
For Astana Medical University, participation in AMEE 2025 was not merely a scientific event, but an important step in shaping its image as a socially responsible educational institution that strives to meet global standards, introduces innovations, and responds to the challenges of the times.
AMEE 2025 proved to be an inspiring platform, demonstrating that global ideas and experience can serve as a solid foundation for local changes, and that knowledge exchange is the cornerstone of sustainable development in medical education in Kazakhstan.
