The Thailand–Kazakhstan Academic Medical Symposium was held at the Nazarbayev University School of Medicine in Astana, focusing on oncology, precision medicine, interdisciplinary approaches to treatment, and improving patients’ quality of life.
The event served as an international platform for the exchange of scientific and clinical expertise, bringing together leading specialists from Kazakhstan and Thailand. Participants discussed key areas of oncology care, including cellular and gene technologies, the application of artificial intelligence in diagnostics, modern treatment approaches, as well as issues of medical education and support for patients in remote regions.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by Vice Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aliya Rustemova and H.E. Ms. Piyapin Niyomrerks, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Kazakhstan. The symposium was also attended by Ms. Orathai Phubunlap Gunasilan, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Kazakhstan.
Astana Medical University was represented by Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation Ayan Myssayev, who presented the university’s key development priorities, its scientific and educational potential, and its international partnership agenda.
As part of the scientific program, Assiya Kukanova, Assistant at the Department of Oncology, delivered a clinical presentation. Her research on suppressing KRAS mutations in colorectal cancer under oxidative stress generated significant interest and professional discussion among participants.
Representatives of the Department of Oncology of Astana Medical University actively participated in the symposium, including Head of the Department Abay Makishev, Associate Professors Aizhan Bekisheva and Marat Mauletbayev, Assistants Darkhan Akhmedin and Nazgul Dzhantemirova, as well as oncology residents.
Organizational support and the development of international cooperation were provided by the International Cooperation Office, represented by Chief Specialist Merey Sataeva and Leading Specialist Alina Tuleubayeva.
Among the international participants were leading Thai experts: Dr. Suthat Fucharoen (Mahidol University), Dr. Suradej Hongeng (Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University & Samitivej Hospitals Group), Dr. Thanachai Sanlung (Khon Kaen University), Dr. Wisut Lamlertthon (Chulabhorn Royal Academy), Ms. Minami Namiza (Samitivej Hospitals Group & Global Bone Marrow Transplant Center), and Mr. Chalermpon Punnotok, CEO of CT Asia Robotics Co. Ltd.
Following the symposium, the delegation from the Department of Oncology of Astana Medical University, together with Thai colleagues, visited the National Scientific Oncology Center. During the visit, participants ознакомились with advanced technologies in cancer diagnosis and treatment and discussed prospects for further professional collaboration and the implementation of innovative methods in clinical practice.
The symposium marked an important milestone in strengthening international academic cooperation and expanding scientific dialogue between Kazakhstan and Thailand. Astana Medical University continues to develop sustainable international partnerships and integrate into the global medical and scientific community.
