Astana hosted the international environmental summit and exhibition RES+ Expo 2026, bringing together leading experts, business representatives, startup communities, and organizations working in the field of sustainable development and green technologies. Representatives of Astana Medical University participated in the event to study advanced environmental initiatives, modern solutions, and global ESG trends.
One of the central events of the forum was the Eco Startup Competition Central Asia, where innovative projects aimed at waste recycling, sustainable consumption, and the implementation of circular economy principles were presented.
Waste as a Source of New Opportunities
Particular attention was drawn to startups demonstrating the transition fr om a linear economic model to a circular one, wh ere waste is seen not as a problem but as a valuable resource. Modern solutions show how recycling and reusing materials can create new business models and generate real economic benefits.
Initiatives aimed at reducing food waste also attracted interest. By cooperating with restaurants and catering businesses, such projects offer surplus food at affordable prices, while simultaneously reducing food losses and increasing accessibility for the public. The concept of “turning waste into income” is becoming one of the key principles of a sustainable future.
Ecology and Health: A Shared Agenda
During the summit, special emphasis was placed on the impact of single-use products on the environment and human health. Experts noted the need for a gradual transition to safe, reusable, and environmentally friendly alternatives capable of reducing pressure on ecosystems and minimizing potential risks.
Water as a Strategic Resource of the Future
A separate discussion block was devoted to the preservation of water resources. Rational water consumption, modern purification technologies, and water reuse are now considered strategic priorities of global sustainable development.
Opportunities for the University
Participation in international platforms of this level opens new opportunities for the university. It allows the institution to adopt the best global practices in education and research, develop areas related to sustainability and ESG approaches, and foster environmental culture among students and staff.
Participation in RES+ Expo 2026 became an important step in expanding professional dialogue and integrating the university into the global environmental agenda.
