Astana Medical University and UNFPA Discuss New Areas of Cooperation

Astana Medical University hosted a working meeting with a delegation fr om the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Kazakhstan. The discussions focused on strengthening partnership in medical education, research, and public health.

The international delegation included Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Florence Bauer, UNFPA Representative in Kazakhstan Chinwe Ogbonna, as well as experts from the organization’s regional and subregional offices.

From the university side, the meeting was attended by Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation Ayan Mysayev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Assem Dossanova, Dean of the School of Medicine Aliya Smagulova, and Head of the International Cooperation Department Saltanat Kassenova.

During the visit, the guests were presented with an overview of the university, highlighting key achievements in education, research, and clinical practice. Particular interest was drawn to modern approaches to medical training aligned with international quality standards and practice-oriented education.

The parties discussed the implementation of joint educational initiatives, professional development programs, exchange of expertise, and opportunities for academic collaboration. Special attention was given to research cooperation, including joint studies and participation in international UNFPA projects.

Prospects for organizing conferences, forums, and thematic seminars on public health, reproductive medicine, and training of next-generation specialists were also considered.

The visit program included a tour of the university’s simulation center, wh ere modern training technologies were demonstrated. During a meeting with students, discussions focused on career opportunities, the role of youth in healthcare systems, and the challenges of modern medicine.

The outcomes of the meeting confirmed the mutual interest of both parties in developing sustainable partnerships and opened new opportunities for joint international initiatives.
