The future of domestic ophthalmic microsurgery is being shaped today - in lecture halls, clinics, and scientific discussions among young specialists. This idea became the central theme of the scientific and practical conference “Ophthalmobridge: Fr om Theory to Practice,” held on May 15 at Astana Medical University.

The event was organized by the Department of Ophthalmology under the leadership of the Head of the Department, Zeynet Akhmedyanova. The conference was aimed at developing the professional competencies of ophthalmology residents and brought together young specialists, practicing physicians, and leading experts in the field.

Participants included residents from University Medical Center, the Astana branch of the Kazakh Research Institute of Eye Diseases, and Astana Medical University. The expert panel consisted of leading ophthalmologists, including Yulia Semenova, Ulyana Apukhtina, Elvira Kadralieva, and Zhibek Dautbayeva.

The scientific and practical meeting was held under the motto: “Ophthalmology as Science, Art, and Calling.” The main objective of the conference was to strengthen the connection between fundamental academic knowledge and real clinical practice in ophthalmology.

The program covered current areas of modern ophthalmology — from advanced imaging technologies and laser treatment to the management of patients with complex ocular pathologies. Special attention was devoted to the integration of artificial intelligence into ophthalmic practice and the potential of digital technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.

Residents presented their own scientific reports, clinical observations, and patient management algorithms for glaucoma, cataract, and refractive disorders. Particular interest was generated by interactive discussions of real clinical cases, during which experienced mentors shared practical approaches to interpreting diagnostic data, selecting treatment strategies, and preventing postoperative complications.

The conference became a platform for professional dialogue wh ere young specialists were able not only to demonstrate their knowledge, but also to gain valuable practical experience essential for their future clinical careers.

At the conclusion of the conference, the best scientific and practical presentations were awarded diplomas. The organizers emphasized that the high level of resident training and their commitment to international standards of evidence-based medicine demonstrate the strong potential for the further development of domestic ophthalmology.
