Astana Medical University Supports World Melanoma Day

The Department of Oncology at Astana Medical University actively participated in events dedicated to World Melanoma Day, an international initiative aimed at raising public awareness about the prevention and early detection of skin cancer.

Every year, many countries around the world organize educational and preventive campaigns focused on melanoma and other malignant skin neoplasms. The primary objective of these activities is to highlight the importance of timely diagnosis, increase awareness of risk factors, and promote a culture of responsible health behavior.

From May 20 to May 25, 2026, the Department of Oncology organized a series of preventive lectures for primary healthcare physicians, oncologists, and surgeons from Polyclinics No. 13 and No. 14 in Astana. The lectures were delivered by Marat Mauletbayev, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Oncology, and Nazgul Dzhantemirova, PhD, Assistant of the Department of Oncology.

During the educational sessions, specialists discussed modern approaches to melanoma prevention and diagnosis, patient referral pathways, risk factors for malignant skin tumors, and the importance of oncological vigilance among primary healthcare providers.

The key event was the Open Day held on May 30, 2026, at the Multidisciplinary Medical Center of Astana, the clinical training base of the Department of Oncology. The event involved faculty members, clinical mentors, and residents of Astana Medical University.

Residents of the capital were offered free specialist consultations, preventive skin examinations using dermoscopy, and personalized recommendations on the prevention of skin cancers. More than 75 citizens underwent examinations and received professional medical advice.

Such initiatives play an important role in improving public cancer awareness and contribute to the early detection of diseases, significantly increasing treatment effectiveness. According to the World Health Organization, timely diagnosis of melanoma is associated with high cure rates.

Astana Medical University continues to actively support preventive and educational projects aimed at preserving public health and promoting a culture of preventive medicine.

The Department of Oncology expresses its sincere gratitude to all faculty members, clinical mentors, residents, and healthcare professionals who contributed to the organization and successful implementation of the Open Day.
