Staff members of Astana Medical University took part in the international ESPID 2026 Congress (European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases), held in Bologna, Italy, which brought together leading experts in the field of pediatric infectious diseases from around the world.

The university was represented at this prestigious scientific forum by Dinagul Baesheva, Head of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Professor Galina Zhumagaliyeva, and Associate Professor Bayan Turdalina.

The ESPID Congress is one of the most authoritative international platforms for discussing current trends and advances in pediatric infectiology. The scientific program addressed issues related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases in children, antimicrobial resistance, improvement of immunization programs, and modern laboratory diagnostic technologies.

Sessions devoted to global health challenges attracted particular interest among participants. Experts discussed the impact of climate change on the global epidemiological situation, the spread of infectious diseases, and the risks of emerging pathogens requiring rapid response from the medical community.

One of the key highlights of the Astana Medical University delegation’s participation was the presentation of a poster titled “Impact of premorbid conditions on severity and intensive care utilization in children hospitalized with acute respiratory viral infections.” The study focuses on factors influencing the severity of acute respiratory viral infections in children and the need for intensive care. The research generated strong interest among international colleagues and became a subject of professional discussion.

In addition to participating in the scientific program, university representatives held meetings with scientists and specialists from the Republic of Korea, France, Spain, Italy, and Paraguay. The established connections provide a foundation for future international collaboration, joint research projects, and academic initiatives.

Participation in ESPID 2026 enabled the university staff to familiarize themselves with advanced global practices in pediatric infectious diseases, enhance their professional competencies, and strengthen the position of Astana Medical University in the international scientific community. The knowledge and experience gained will contribute to the further development of the university’s educational, research, and clinical activities.
