From 20 to 25 September 2026, 11 students and a faculty member from Xinjiang Medical University (People’s Republic of China) completed an academic mobility programme at Astana Medical University.

The week in Astana gave the participants an opportunity not only to explore Kazakhstan’s medical education system and clinical practice, but also to gain hands-on experience in rehabilitation medicine and sports medicine.

The programme included practical lectures and visits to three clinical sites. The participants became familiar with the organisation of specialised departments and modern approaches to the diagnosis, treatment and medical rehabilitation of patients. The students observed healthcare professionals at work, took part in clinical case discussions and saw how theoretical knowledge is applied in real-world medical practice.

Particular attention was paid to the organisation of diagnostic and treatment processes at university-affiliated clinics, as well as to the specific aspects of professional practice in rehabilitation and sports medicine.

The programme concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony recognising the participants’ successful completion of the training. The certificates were presented by Ayan Myssayev, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation.

International academic mobility programmes create valuable opportunities for professional exchange among future physicians, allow students to gain insight into different approaches to healthcare delivery, and provide a foundation for further development of educational and research cooperation between medical universities in Kazakhstan and China.
