Congratulations to Makhabbat Alpysbaeva, 7th year intern, who won a grant from Chevron, having participated in the international program “Social Impact Award Kazakhstan” with the project “Orthopedic crawlers Tai-Tai”!

In June 2020, Makhabbat Alpysbayeva, representing Astana Medical University, took part in the international program “Social Impact Award Kazakhstan”, which is aimed at developing social entrepreneurship and solving social problems.

About 100 applicants took part in the competition, of which 15 projects were selected for the final, including the project “Orthopedic crawlers Tai-Tai”. The essence of the project is to prevent and treat diseases of the hip dysplasia. The social significance of this project is that thanks to it, mothers of large families are employed. It should be noted that as a result of three months of training in social entrepreneurship, the project participants achieved good sales.

On October 2, 2020, the final of the competition took place, where three winners were nominated for a grant from SIA Kazakhstan, including our project. The winners were allocated a grant for the further development of their projects in the amount of 600,000 tenge. According to Makhabbat Alpysbaeva, the funds were spent on equipping the sewing workshop, in which it is planned to manufacture, not only orthopedic goods, but also sportswear for children of different ages and groups.

“As an intern doctor, I am engaged in the scientific circle of the NJSC “AMU” on the topic of pathology of the hip joint. I am able to sew, and therefore I had the idea to produce children’s preventive clothing for children 1 year of life, in order to prevent disability, volunteered the “Qazvolunteer” program with the by the charity foundation @karabekovfoundation.

Together with a mentor, the idea arose to sew and produce children’s clothing for children of the 1st year of life with an established diagnosis of hip joint pathology.

According to my observations, this pathology is more common in children from socially vulnerable segments of the population. Our clothing is aimed at preventing children from becoming disabled. I took an active part in a scientific circle at a medical university. According to the results of scientific research, it has been proven that the prevention of hip joint pathology is a treatment. Treatment up to a year gives 95% good anatomical results. According to statistics, out of 10 children born, 8 have underdevelopment of the hip joint. As a result, I and my mentor Rosa Karabekova, attracted seamstresses (disabled women, mothers of special children) to the project on the basis of the @coworking_astana_kids coworking space, and created a clothing repair shop. In the future, we plan to sew, produce and sell our products, Impact Potential preventive children’s clothing.

Crawlers “Tai-tai” are prevention of disability from the early stages of life.

The advantages of this idea are distinguished by originality, reusability, fashionable design, affordable price and great importance of prevention with the help of our clothes, - said Makhabbat Alpysbaeva.

Congratulations to Makhabbat and scientific advisor Rosa Karabekova for the good they bring to this world! And we also wish them continued success in their future endeavors!
