Neonatologist today is a sought-after profession, since doctors of this specialty are required in all institutions where care is provided to young children – multidisciplinary hospitals, maternity hospitals and perinatal centers.
In Kazakhstan, as in other CIS countries, such a profession has existed since 1987. Only in recent decades have they begun to study the causes leading to the death of a newborn, as well as ways to prevent this. The rapid development of instrumental techniques made it possible to advance the science of the study of the newborn to a new level and create such a specialty as neonatology.
Becoming a neonatologist is worth it for those who are not afraid of increased responsibility and are ready for an irregular schedule. Doctors of this specialty work with tiny children, and their patients cannot tell where and how it hurts, complain, so qualities such as:
- mindfulness (even a change in breathing rate or skin tone matters);
- responsibility (maintaining a high quality of care for each child);
- education (deep knowledge of theory and practical skills);
- endurance (since doctors work day or night with night shifts);
- ability to make informed decisions in critical situations (there are times when minutes or seconds count, and the health and life of a child depends on the doctor’s reaction);
- lack of fear of blood (since it is required to perform invasive, that is, violating the integrity of the skin and mucous membranes, manipulations.
Being a neonatologist is difficult and responsible, but if you have an inclination to work, it is very interesting. Today, it is impossible to imagine a neonatological service in Kazakhstan without these doctors. Thousands of saved children’s lives are on their account.
The nobility of the profession is not the only advantage. It is in demand in all parts of the country and abroad, which is important for the stability of the labor history. Neonatologist is a specialty with a great future.
The work of a neonatologist is connected not only with children, but also with their parents. The specialist should be able to convey to them important information about the correct care of the baby, the likelihood of developing any diseases, and self-monitoring of the development of the child. If you correctly set the direction of development and identify any diseases in time, you can avoid many problems in the child in the future.
Thus, we can say that the neonatologist sets the path for the child in life. Therefore, choosing your future work, think very well! If you like it, and you are not afraid to take on such responsibility, then this profession is for you.
