Today, on May 27, 2022, Astana Medical University hosted a republican conference on the topic: "Prevention of colorectal precancerous and cancer: getting back on track."

The event was organized jointly with the National Association of Gastroenterologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan and timed to coincide with the World Digestive System Health Day (WDHD).

The event was attended by gastroenterologists, therapists, GPS, endoscopists, pathologists, as well as interested doctors of other specialties, as well as teachers of clinical departments, residents, undergraduates, doctoral students, interns of clinical departments.

The relevance of this topic for the world is very significant, since colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third cause of death in malignant tumors. When detected at preclinical stages, it has now been established that CRC tends to be localized and often curable by surgical resection with an excellent prognosis.

Within the framework of this conference, the following issues recommended by WDHD-2022 WGO were discussed, in particular:

• Raise awareness of the global burden of colorectal cancer and the effectiveness of screening.

• Provide gastroenterologists, their patients and non-professionals with an understanding of the important results of the latest fundamental and clinical studies of the changing epidemiology and risk factors of colorectal cancer

• Increase the level of educational and training materials on key achievements about nutrition, environmental and lifestyle factors that can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

• Stimulate international cooperation that promotes education, research and training on various methods of colorectal cancer screening and their comparative effectiveness.

• Inform practitioners and the public about approaches to implementing effective and resource-saving colorectal cancer screening programs.
