Master class: The value of the works of Oteboydak Tileukabyluly in traditional medicine

Astana Medical University hosted a master class on the topic: "The meaning of the work of Oteboydak Tileukabyluly "Shipagerlik Bayan" (Medical narration) in traditional medicine.

The event, organized by the Department of Preventive Medicine and Nutritionology under the leadership of Professor Yerbolat Dalenov, was attended by students and staff, teachers and doctors of Nur-Sultan.

Oteboydak Tileukabyluly (1388-1478) was a famous Kazakh scientist, healer, author of a solid medical and ethnographic work "Shipagerlik Bayan".

At one time, he was familiar with such historical figures as Zhanibek Khan, Zhirenshe Sheshen. O.Tileukabyluly was a well-known public figure, participated in solving issues related to the fate of the people.

Data on the life of O. Tileukabyluly, the dates of his birth and death, are taken from his book "Shipagerlik Bayan". So, he writes about himself that he began writing the book at the age of 70 at the request of Zhanibek Khan and that he finished it at the age of 85 in 1473, when Zhanibek Khan died. There is also evidence that Oteboydak died at the age of about 90 years.

Medical, healing qualities were passed on to the Boy from his ancestors. Having mastered the rich healing experience accumulated by him, Oteboydak devoted his whole life to this cause and brought folk medicine into a scientific system. Thus, he was able to raise the medicine of his time to a high level. In this field, he, like al-Farabi, neglected the thirst for fame, wealth, everything that is typical of ordinary mortals, and devoted his whole life to studying the subtleties of healing.

The book "Shipagerlik Bayan" (Medical narrative) has reached today, thanks to his relatives. Having passed through the trials of time, only a fourth part of the rich heritage has reached our days. The rest was burned by the Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution in China.

This book gives a lot of information about the experience of traditional folk Kazakh medicine. The fact that he, using various compounds (mixtures) of over 1000 types of medicines, offers over 4000 prescriptions, convinces us that Oteboydak was an experienced healer and an outstanding scientist.

The special historical and ethnographic significance of this work is evidenced by the fact that the book mentions the medicinal properties of 728 types of medicines of plant origin, 318 types of medicines of animal origin, 318 types of medicines derived from metals and metalloids, as well as the mention of about 500 anatomical terms. The priceless work "Shipagerlik Bayan" is evidence of the depth and richness of the Kazakh language already in those days. In 1994, the book was published in Arabic in Urumqi (China), in 1996 in Kazakh in Almaty. In 1997, the Chinese government awarded the book the "State First Book" award. 2 state medical centers have been established in China to study the heritage of O. Tleukabyluly. A monument to Fr .Tleukabyluly (2002) on djaylau Shalkode in Rayymbek district of Almaty region. A street in Almaty is named after him.

The participants of the master class discussed the importance and stressed the need to study the life and work of Oteboydak Tileukabyluly. Special words of gratitude were expressed to the organizers in the person of the head of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Nutritionology, Professor Yerbolat Dalenov.
