Objectives

- Development of advanced scientific directions and their implementation on the basis of innovative products in the educational process and practical healthcare

- Expanding scientific cooperation and increasing scientific research, including international;

- Increasing the publication activity of teaching staff and students of the University;

- Commercialization of research results;

- Development and implementation of innovative technologies in science (introduction of new methods of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation at departments)

- Organization and coordination of scientific activities of the University;

- Ensuring and monitoring the scientific activities of the university, ethical standards of research, protects the rights, safety and well-being of subjects and researchers;

- Provision of work, meetings of commissions for the award of the "Zhas Daryn" award, the Foundation for Scientific and Innovative Development;

- Ensuring the participation of university staff and students at scientific and practical conferences, congresses, congresses, etc.

History of creation

The Office of science was organized in December 2010 and is a structural subdivision of NJSC "AMU".

Due to the change in the organizational and staff structure of the NJSC "Astana Medical University" on September 9, 2019, a Research center was established, which included divisions:

1. Office of Science

2. National and International Project Management Office 

3. Office of Quality Assurance of Research and Clinical Activities

4. Commercialization Center and Technopark

5. Vivarium

On the basis of the SRC, the following have been created and are functioning:

1. The Technology and Innovation Support Center (together with the RSE at the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan). The main function of the center is to support the innovative activities of the teaching staff, research units and students of the University.

2. Orthopedic laboratory for collective use (together with the NCO "Public Fund named after Karabekov Agabek"). The laboratory houses 3-D printing devices for the manufacture of innovative orthopedic devices.

3. Experimental Biological Clinic (vivarium) was created for breeding and keeping laboratory animals used in biomedical research and laboratory classes.

Activity

Development of research potential of university employees:

  •      regular improvement and carrying out of rating assessment of scientific activity of HEI employees, improvement of rating system;

  •      formation and support of the university-wide information base of scientific achievements of HEI employees;

  •      creation of conditions for participation of HEI employees in scientific internships and training programs abroad;

  •      organization of training seminars and master classes on the basis of the university with the invitation of leading foreign experts;

  •      implementation of international standards of scientific research and management;

Active use of resources of domestic and foreign foundations and granting organizations:

  •     ensuring regular participation of university employees in applying for participation in grant competitions.

  •     increasing the quantity and quality of scientific and publishing activities:

  •     increasing the requirements for publications in the University's scientific journals

  •     creation of conditions for the growth of publication rate of faculty and students in peer-reviewed international journals.

  •     Providing conditions for the expansion of volumes and growth of competitiveness and commercializability of intellectual property objects of the University:

  •     increase and promotion of scientific developments and innovations with subsequent implementation in the educational process and practical healthcare.

Achievement

 

  •   On an annual basis, preparation of applications for participation in competitions for grant and program-targeted funding, as well as scientific support of scientific programs and projects carried out at the HEI was ensured;

  •     Scientific competencies of employees and students in the issues of research planning and commercialization were built up - more than 500 people were trained in 2022-2024;

  •     The Regulation defining the procedure for opening new scientific divisions in 2022 was developed;

  •     Regulations on intra-university grant financing were developed and a Competition for intra-university grant financing of scientific projects for students and employees was held in 2023;

  •      2 research institutes were opened at the Research Institute “Preventive Medicine” named after E.D. Dalenov and the Research Institute of Radiology named after J.H. Khamzabaev in 2023;

  •      A database of scientific projects was formed for submitting applications for competitions;

  •      Regulations were developed and the Scientific and Technical Council with the participation of leading scientists and young researchers of the University was established in 2023;

  •      Procedures for sending to scientific internships and conferences have been simplified;

  •      The scientific-practical journal “Astana Medical Journals” was included in the List of publications recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

  •     A system of incentive payments to authors - University employees for publishing articles in scientific publications indexed in the international citation bases Web of Science (WoS) and/or Scopus” was developed and implemented, which allowed to significantly intensify the publication activity of University employees. So only for the last 3 years the number of scientific articles increased from 81 to 143 (by 76%) in 2023, and the share of articles in Q1-Q2 journals increased from 28.4% (23 articles) to 56.6% (81 articles), i.e. 3.5 times. In the first half of 2024 alone, university employees published 110 articles in peer-reviewed journals, which is 55% more than in the same period of 2023;

  •     Reaccreditation for 5 years (2024-2029) was successfully passed, thus confirming the high potential for scientific and scientific-technical activities;

  •      Patent support is underway, simplifying the application process for University employees.
