Planning, organization and implementation of educational, methodical, scientific and educational work. Current, intermediate and final control of students ' education in accordance with the curriculum and programs.Training of highly qualified specialists at the bachelor's level and scientific and pedagogical personnel under the Master's and doctoral programs PhD. Also, to reach the international level of providing educational services with the involvement of foreign students.
As well as planning and conducting scientific research by students at the undergraduate level and the "Young Researcher's School" scientific school, which was opened at the department in September 2018.
Creation history
The history of the creation of the Department of Public Health No. 1 (social Hygiene and Health organization) begins in 1967.
The first head and organizer of the department was Yuri Danilovich Shitikov, who came from Moscow.Baku to Kazakhstan.
After the retirement of associate Professor Yu. D. Shitikov, the department was headed by his student L. E. Sviridova.
In the 80-90s, the Department of Social Hygiene (Medicine) and Health Organization was periodically part of the following departments of General Hygiene, Normal Physiology, and Microbiology, and was combined with the Department of Postgraduate Education.
In the period 1997-2017, the head of the department was Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor L. L. Karp.
Then, from October 2017, Asiya Turgambayeva was appointed Head of the Department (head of the Department of Management and Marketing, which was merged with the Department of Public Health No. 1).
Activity
The development of the department has been purposefully intensified in terms of attracting highly qualified personnel in the public health specialty, which directly affects the quality of education and science, as well as the development of educational programs with their subsequent implementation. 75.0% of the faculty and 62% of the teaching staff are fluent in English.
The main areas of activity of the department, in addition to teaching, as indicated above, are also scientific and postgraduate education (advanced training courses). The faculty is engaged in such research as youth unemployment, the educational process of vulnerable populations, improving the activities of primary health care and other research within the framework of master's studies and doctoral studies. Since October 2018, a disstantiated 2-year training in Public health has been introduced on the basis of 1 higher medical education. A project for the development of the Department of Public Health for 2021-2025 has been developed. Over the period of the department's existence, more than 485 scientific papers have been published, including articles, theses, textbooks, manuals, methodological recommendations, essays. This event is aimed at discussing and developing an action plan for integrated activities of multidisciplinary healthcare organizations that are also involved in management and marketing processes, corporate governance, leadership and personnel management, etc. The Department tries to apply the best experience of healthcare systems in developed countries. Vilnius University Faculty of Public Health, Heidelberg University (Germany) - are partners in educational programs, Institute of International Education (Prague, Czech Republic), Perm Medical University (Russia).
Progress
The department is constantly working on training young specialists (continuity of generations is observed).
According to the results of its activities in 2023, the department took the 1st place in the university in terms of achieving KPI.
In 2021, the department won the Grand Prix among all universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the direction of "Preventive medicine". In 2022, an in , an MBA OP. Since October 2012, the department has introduced a course on bioethics, and since 2018, the department is part of theunitdepartments of the International Department of Bioethics at the Israeli University of Haifa. In this regard, such events are held annually together with students in the form of a round table, seminars, forums, etc.

In 2015, the department as part of the University passed specialized accreditation for the levels of study-Master's and doctoral studies in OZ. Since the 2013-14 academic year, the department has introduced the defense of a thesis, which allowed graduates of the faculty to show organizational skills and the potential of scientific research. In December 2018, the specialty" Public Health " took the 1st place among all medical universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In April 2019, the specialty "Public Health" passed specialized accreditation with international participation. Under the guidance of the Faculty of the department, students have repeatedly won prizes, participating in scientific conferences of JSC "MUA" and other medical universities (Volgograd, Kazan, Almaty, Baku). Teaching staff regularly improve their skills. As part of the implementation of the state task under program 031 "Implementation of international standards in the field of hospital management", NAO "MUA" also showed leadership and was the first to start implementing the educational program for the preparation of "Masters of Business Administration" (MBA) in the field of hospital management (in the period 2009-2016, 2021).
The faculty has trained and graduated 16 doctors of medical Sciences, 25 candidates of medical Sciences, 18 PhD doctors, more than 145 masters, and published more than 1000 publications. We attract foreign scientific consultants for undergraduates and doctoral students. The Department implements the following projects: Development of recommendations for ethical experts when conducting research expertise during emergencies (WHO Grant under the guidance of Professor B. E. Sarymsakova) and Creation of academic capacity in the field of global health in the Eastern Europe/Central Asia region (EECA)//Building Academic Capacity in Global Health in the Eastern Europe/Central Asia(EECA) "(Erasmus Plus, a grant from the European Union under the Higher Education Capacity Building Program).
Further, the department is engaged in the implementation of advanced training programs for practical healthcare professionals. The faculty members of the department are leading experts of the republic in the field of public health, management, bioethics, nephrology, quality assessment of medical services/accreditation of medical organizations, are members of working groups of supervisory boards, governmental and non-governmental organizations.
