Goals
To train highly qualified specialists, academic and teaching staff, who possess the necessary knowledge and practical skills, meet modern requirements, adhere to the principles of evidence-based medicine, and are capable of applying advanced technologies in medicine.
History of Establishment
Department of Pediatric Diseases No. 3 was established in February 2002. Its founder, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Professor Lyubov Nikolaevna Skuchalina, headed the department until September 2008. Lyubov Nikolaevna headed the Department of Pediatric Diseases at the Tselinograd State Medical Institute for 12 years (1987-1999). She also served as Dean of the Faculty of Pediatrics at the Tselinograd State Medical Institute for 10 years (1989-1999). Professor L.N. Skuchalina is a member of the European Respiratory Society, the European Academy of Allergy & Clinical Immunology, and a member of the expert council of the "Educational International Consensus on Respiratory Medicine in Pediatrics in the CIS Countries." She has been awarded the "Excellent Healthcare Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan" badge, the "For Contribution to Healthcare" badge, and certificates and diplomas from the Ministry of Health.
From 2008 to the present, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences S.T. Abdrakhmanova.
Activities
The department is located at Multidisciplinary City Children's Hospital No. 2, Multidisciplinary City Children's Hospital No. 3, City Polyclinic No. 2, City Polyclinic No. 5, City Polyclinic No. 7, and the Medicare and Rainbow Health medical centers. The department conducts advanced training courses in various areas of pediatrics for pediatricians, pediatric cardiologists, pulmonologists, and gastroenterologists.
The department has 19 full-time faculty members, including three doctors of medical sciences, seven candidates of medical sciences, and two masters of medicine. Department heads, highly qualified physicians specializing in pediatrics, cardiology, rheumatology, and gastroenterology, serve as assistant mentors.
Levels of study at the department: bachelor's degree in the specialty "Pediatrics", "Medicine", "Dentistry", "Kinesitherapy", internship in the specialty "Pediatrics", "General Medicine", residency in the specialty "Pediatrics", "Cardiology", "Rheumatology", "Gastroenterology", "Pediatric Gastroenterology", master's degree in the specialty "Medicine", doctoral degree in the specialty "Medicine".
The faculty actively participates in the international academic mobility program of Astana Medical University and Tashkent Medical University (Uzbekistan), Bukhara State Medical University named after Abu Ali ibn Sina (Uzbekistan), Perm State Medical University named after E.A. Wagner (Russia), Omsk State Medical University (Russian Federation), and Novosibirsk State Medical University (Russian Federation).
Each staff member is assigned to a specific medical facility in Astana. At these facilities, the department's staff conducts weekly rounds, provides ongoing consultations, and provides patient care. The department's faculty regularly participates in hospital and citywide scientific and practical conferences, as well as pathology conferences.
Achievements
At the department, 1 doctoral, 4 candidate, and 5 master’s dissertations have been defended. The staff of the department constantly participate in the work of conferences, congresses, conventions, and olympiads of various levels. The results of the research work of the department staff are published in journals of far and near abroad, as well as of republican and regional significance (the total number of publications of the department staff is more than 490), and are implemented into practical healthcare (more than 50 implementations).
The staff of the department actively cooperate with scientists from the near and far abroad, as members of the Union of Pediatricians of the CIS countries, the Association of Pediatric Cardiologists of the CIS, the expert council of the “Educational International Consensus on Respiratory Medicine in Pediatrics of the CIS countries”, ERS, EAACI, and are co-authors of 3 methodological recommendations and international clinical guidelines.
The staff of the department are participants of the program “International multicenter double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial in parallel groups of the efficacy and safety of Ergoferon in the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections in children”, and of the project “Development of methodology for restoration of the intestinal mucosal layer after antibiotic therapy” jointly with National Laboratory Astana of Nazarbayev University.
Taking into account the decrease in the level of vaccination in certain regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, cycles of educational seminars on vaccine prophylaxis for doctors and the population of Western and Northern Kazakhstan were organized and conducted. On the basis of the Educational Grant Agreement on a gratuitous basis, a cycle of video programs “Vaccine for Daughter and Son” was prepared, which has been launched for medical-preventive children’s institutions as a visual aid on vaccine prophylaxis.
The staff of the department have breast badges “Excellent Healthcare Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, “Qurmetti Ustaz”, certificates of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the rectorate, and letters of appreciation from health departments and chief physicians of medical institutions.
In their work, the teachers of the department use the principles of professionalism, honesty and principledness, conscientious attitude to work, deontology in pediatrics, and improvement of knowledge and skills.
