Activity

1. Educational work.

Currently, the department is studying under undergraduate, internships, residency, magistracy and doctoral studies. The department is provided with a sufficient number of staff including professors, associate professors and assistants. The Department of Oncology supports the principle of continuity, so most graduates of the Department of Oncology are currently its employees. Every year, the staff of the Department of Oncology is replenished from among the employees of the “multidisciplinary medical center” of the Akimat Nur Sultan, who are mentors for oncologists. In the educational process, innovative training technologies are actively used, such as the method of reference signals, CASE-Study, PBL, CBL. The use of the standard of the standardized patient allows you to imitate the real clinical situation for the examination of students, interns and residents. To this end, 25 acts of new educational technologies have been developed and implemented in the educational process, which cover all topics of the calendar-thematic plan. Annually, educational and methodological manuals for students and interns are published such as “oncogynecology” in the Kazakh language, “mastopathy and breast cancer”, “malignant and benign diseases of the stomach”, “oncogynecology”, “Oncological gynecology” in English. The assistants of the Department of Oncology, having an existing IELTS certificate, conduct classes in English in groups with foreign students from India and Pakistan. Regularly, the teaching staff improves pedagogical qualifications with cascading involvement of all employees of the department. As well as employees of the Department of Oncology, they relate the training programs for innovative teaching methods of the faculty of medical universities in the Republic of Kazakhstan and nearby countries in the framework of academic mobility (Kazakh National Medical University named after S. D. Aspendiyarova, Tajik State Medical University named after Abuali Ibni Sino, Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute).

Over the entire period of activity, more than 50,000 students who work in all regions of Kazakhstan and abroad have received knowledge at the Department of Oncology. The Department of Oncology implements postgraduate education in residency with a degree in oncology (adult). Given the requests of practical healthcare, the Department of Oncology under the leadership of Professor Makishev A.K. Provides the northern regions of the country. In 2022-2023, the number of residents studying at the Department of Oncology is 45 students. Over the entire period of the department, the release of residents amounted to more than 65 oncologists.

Development of a method for the use of MCA (monoclonal antibodies) in the diagnosis of oncological diseases. Currently, work is underway to study the immunobiological properties of the obtained antigens - immunization of mice to determine the immunogenicity of the obtained antigens.
Together with the PI "National Laboratory Astana" at the AEO "Nazarbayev University" research work is being carried out, a grant from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Development of pancreatic cancer therapy with an oxidative combination of drugs targeting cancer cells-mutants KRAS" and targeted funding programs "Development of antitumor drugs that induce glucose-dependent cytotoxic oxidative stress.
Reconstructive methods for the treatment of breast cancer (TRAM-flap, DIEP-flap) are being introduced.
Work continues on the study and implementation of the possibilities of oncological rehabilitation of oncological patients with complications after complex treatment.
The staff of the Department of Oncology is actively publishing the results of scientific research in international journals included in the Scopus and Web of science databases, in journals recommended by KKSON, in collections of abstracts of international conferences. Department of Professor Makishev A.K. For the first time, modern methods of diagnosis and surgical treatment of malignant neoplasms were introduced using extended-combined surgical interventions with lymph node dissection:

• in case of cancer of the esophagus, stomach, cardioesophageal zone and post-burn cicatricial stenosis of the esophagus - simultaneous extended extirpation and subtotal resection of the thoracic and abdominal esophagus with esophagogastroplasty (Lewis, Savinykh and Garlock type operation), extended-combined gastrectomy, subtotal proximal and distal resection of the stomach, simultaneous extirpation of the esophagus with plasty with an isoperistaltic gastric stalk and the whole stomach;
• for lung cancer – extended pulmonectomy, bilobectomy, lobectomy with intrapericardial ligation of pulmonary vessels;
