As part of the IAEA National Project "Creation of a national training center with a reference laboratory to support and improve radiation protection in the medical use of ionizing radiation," employees of the Institute of Radiobiology and Radiation Protection visited the Radiation Protection Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania and the Vilnius University Hospital "Santaros Klinikos" from September 4 to September 9, 2023.
      The issues of ensuring radiation safety, optimizing radiation protection, and dosimetry of medical personnel and patients, as well as the training of medical physicists in master's and doctoral degrees, and advanced training of medical personnel and medical physicists in the field of radiation safety, were discussed during the meeting with Lithuanian colleagues.
      The use of international experience in the field of radiation protection in medicine will make it possible to improve advanced training courses for medical personnel and medical physicists in accordance with IAEA requirements in our country. It will aid to prepare proposals for amending the regulatory documents on radiation safety of the Republic of Kazakhstan regarding quality control in radiation diagnostics and nuclear medicine, as well as recording doses and establishing a national reference diagnostic level for patient exposure.
