There is an annual increase in the number of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and prediabetes in the world, in Kazakhstan their number is already more than one million people. Developing renal insufficiency and other complications are the cause of high mortality among these patients – more than 10 thousand people with type 2 diabetes die every year. Thousands remain visually impaired and due to limb amputations.
The Congress contributed to raising professional awareness and establishing interaction between endocrinologists and metabolic surgeons regarding indications and views on metabolic surgery of type 2 diabetes mellitus and prediabetes. Discussion of these issues with the participation of leading international and national experts and an interdisciplinary approach allow us to develop recommendations and suggestions for improving the results of treatment of this socially significant pathology.
