The global problem of combating antibiotic resistance carried out under the auspices of WHO, within the framework of the week dedicated to awareness of antibiotic resistance (held from November 18 to 24 and in Kazakhstan in particular) in Astana on November 22, 2023, on the basis of the «City Polyclinic №5» a city seminar for clinicians, laboratory technicians of the PHC organization in Astana on the topic «Rational use of antibacterial drugs and issues of containing antibiotic resistance» as part of the World Awareness Week on the problem of antimicrobial resistance.
The organizers of the seminar were the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after. Sh.I. Sarbasova NJSC «Astana Medical University» together with the «City Polyclinic №5» of the Akimat of Astana.
Opening remarks were made by the director of the «City Polyclinic №5» Tabuldina Altynshash and the head of the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after. Sh.I. Sarbasova NJSC «Astana Medical University», Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Marat Dusmagambetov.
The seminar program was rich and informative. Presentations on the topic of rational use of ABMs at the outpatient level were made by candidates of medical sciences, associate professors of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of the NJSC «Astana Medical University», clinical pharmacologists Burkitbaeva Saule and Makalkina Larisa.
Reports were also presented by the teaching staff of the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after. Sh.I. Sarbasova - Dusmagambetov M.U., Baiduisenova A.U., Yktiyarov A.A., dedicated to the problems of ABR, on the role of the microbiological laboratory in curbing the growing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics. The team of the laboratory department of the «City Polyclinic №5» represented by the head Dusmagambetova Aigul and bacteriologists of the highest category Zhunusov Dastan and Akhmetov Bakytzhan presented reports on the issues of containing resistance to antimicrobial drugs, problematic issues of epidemiological surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as about the microbial landscape and AMR of pathogens of asymptomatic bacteriuria.
Preventing the emergence of antimicrobial resistance requires collective action from all sectors of society. Inappropriate and overuse of antimicrobials across multiple sectors is a major driver of AMR. Effectively addressing this global challenge requires a comprehensive, multi-sectoral approach involving the whole of society.
