One of the main directions of Astana Medical University is scientific activity with biomedical research, so compliance with ethical norms is an important point.
Bioethics is a set of principles that warn about negative consequences of biomedical technologies not only for a person, but also for society as a whole. Strict observance of bioethics principles in biomedical research is ensured through the work of the Local Bioethics Commission (hereinafter referred to as LBC) of NpJSC «Astana Medical University». LBC is an independent expert authority that conducts bioethical examination of documents related to biomedical research at the stage of its planning, during its implementation and after its completion in order to ensure the safety and protection of the rights of participants of biomedical research.
The composition of the LBC is approved by the order of the Vice-Rector and includes a Chairperson, a Deputy Chairperson, 13 experts and a Secretary. The Chairperson of the LBC is Rakhmetova Venera Sametovna, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, the Deputy Chairperson is Kamalbekova Gulnara Maratovna, Candidate of Medical Sciences, and the Secretary is Auezkhanova Gulaziya Nurlanqyzy, specialist of the Centre for Development of Research Activities. For the past year 2023, the LBC held 16 meetings, where 189 applications were considered, of which: primary applications 162, including approved 135, approved with comments 50; repeated applications 27, including approved 14, approved with comments 7, for repeated application 2.
