Today marks an important holiday - Operating Room Nurse Day! This day is dedicated to these incredible professionals who play a crucial role in operating rooms, ensuring the safety and care of patients during surgical procedures.
As technology advances, quality education and training for operating room nurses is critical. In addition to learning new surgical procedures and technologies, understanding updated infection control protocols, patient safety and emergencies, it is important for them to perform tasks quickly and accurately, collaborate with the surgical team, and apply various skills such as communication, leadership, and surgical knowledge and technology.
In Kazakhstan, nurses are the most numerous category in the structure of medical personnel, accounting for about 60% of all health workers (according to WHO data), with the proportion of nurses in Kazakhstan being over 75%.
Nurses also account for 90% of contacts between patients and health professionals. These figures show that the effectiveness of medical care depends largely on the professionalism, competence and level of training of nurses.
NJSС Astana Medical University (University) ensures the quality level of education of medical nurses in the Republic. The University offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in nursing. Since the implementation of the educational program, more than 1000 nurses with higher education have been trained. At present, 145 students are studying for a bachelor's degree, including 58 working nurses who are studying under shortened educational programs. Since the introduction of Master's programs at the University, 32 Masters in Nursing have been trained and currently 5 PhD students are studying in the Nursing Science program, combining their studies with work in the relevant department teaching nursing to undergraduate students.
This year, the university plans to launch a one-year, part-time Master's in Nursing program that will allow nurses to continue working in clinical practice while pursuing their Master's degree.
Successful career development for every nurse depends on evidence-based practice, continuing education and involvement in scientific research. Nursing education at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels is important to ensure the pedagogical and scientific competencies necessary for the education of nurse educators, the development of nursing research, and evidence-based practice.
We express our gratitude and respect to all theatre nurses for their dedicated work and commitment to health!
