On November 1, 2024, the subject Olympiad "Secrets of Medical Microbiology" was held among the 2nd year students of the School of "Medicine", organized by the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova, NJSC "Astana Medical University".

The organizers of the Olympiad: professors of the department, Candidate of Medical Sciences Asemova Gulzhan Dankibekovna, Urekeshov Baktybergen Sadykovich and senior teachers, curators of akademic groups, masters of medical Sciences Botbaeva Madina Turlybekovna, Akimbekova Elmira Mukhanmadievna, masters of Biological Sciences Duisebekova Gulbanu Pralievna, Sarsenova Aikerim Grigory-Abatovna.

Jury: Head of the department, MD, Professor Dusmagambetov M.U., PhD, Professor Rakhmetova N.B., PhD, Professor Asemova G.D., PhD, Professor Urekeshev B. S. In addition, the jury included specially invited guests: senior methodologist of the Center for Transfer of Educational Technologies Utenova Gulnur Magauyanovna, Deputy Dean The School of "Medicine" Tulieva Aliya Moldabaevna.

The Olympiad was exclusively for 2nd-year students of the School of Medicine, specifically those in groups 201-240. Initially, five students were chosen from each of the seven groups to participate in the Olympiad. Subsequently, a random draw was conducted among these 35 selected students to form seven teams, each comprising five students.

The Olympiad was structured into three parts.

In the first part of the program, there were 30 interactive questions on the section "General microbiology" - morphology and physiology of microorganisms, infection and immunity. The second part included written assignments where students had to solve crossword. The third part contained clinical situational tasks, which the teams answered verbally. The jury members evaluated each stage.

During the Olympiad, the teams tried to comprehensively demonstrate their knowledge of general and specific microbiology. In conclusion, the «TRIUMPH» and «VIKINGTER VIRUSES» teams were awarded with a diploma of the I degree, the «IMMUNOGLOBULIN» team with diplomas of the II degree, the «MICROIMPERIA» and «MICROWORLD» teams with diplomas of the III degree, the «ELIT» and «MICRO MASTERS» teams with diplomas of the IV degree.

The Department of Microbiology and Virology named after S.I.Sarbasova expresses gratitude to all the department's teachers and 2nd-year students of the School of Medicine who participated in the Olympiad.
