Fr om February 24 to 28, 2025, a series of lectures and practical sessions on gerontology were held at Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University as part of the academic mobility program. Dr. Aliya Smagulova, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine with a course in Geriatrics of Astana medical university, PhD, presented a unique educational program for over 100 interns from the medical faculty. This initiative marked a significant step in training specialists, particularly in light of the ongoing demographic trend of an aging population both in the region and across the country.

The sessions covered key aspects of geriatrics and gerontology, including the classification of older age groups and the physiological changes occurring in the body with aging. Special emphasis was placed on comprehensive geriatric assessment, as well as the peculiarities of pharmacotherapy in elderly patients, including issues related to polypharmacy and the risks of adverse drug reactions. The program concluded with practical sessions wh ere specific nosologies and approaches to their treatment were discussed in detail.

This educational project highlighted the importance of enhancing the qualifications of future doctors in the context of the current global demographic changes. The exchange of knowledge and practical experience between the capital and the regions contributes not only to the improvement of medical professionals' skills but also to the enhancement of healthcare quality for elderly patients, ultimately improving the national healthcare system.

The academic mobility program continues to open new horizons for the development of medical education, making it more accessible and aligned with modern requirements.
