Fr om March 3 to March 14, 2025, as part of the SCOPE academic mobility and professional exchange program by KazMSA, a student fr om Serbia completed an internship at Astana Medical University. The training took place at the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova, wh ere Katarina Kuzmanovski, a fourth-year medical student, deepened her knowledge in medical microbiology.
The internship program covered an in-depth study of medical microbiology, focusing on key topics such as the morphology and physiology of bacteria, infection mechanisms, immune response, and bacterial and viral diseases. Practical sessions, conducted under the guidance of Professor Gulzhan Asemova, Senior Lecturer and Master of Science Madina Botbayeva, and Aigerim Sarsenova, provided the student with valuable hands-on experience in working with microbiological materials.
During the internship, Katarina Kuzmanovski:
- Studied the morphological characteristics of bacteria and viruses by examining samples under a microscope;
- Mastered modern methods of microorganism identification and principles of infectious disease diagnostics;
- Familiarized herself with the Mind Map technique and key signal methodology as forms of independent learning.
A significant part of the program was a field visit to Microbiological Laboratory No.1 of the City Multidisciplinary Hospital, wh ere Associate Professor, PhD, S.K. Bisimbayeva, a bacteriologist, provided a detailed explanation of laboratory operations, pathogenic bacteria cultivation methods, and the process of their identification using the Vitek system.
Additionally, the visiting student joined clinical microbiology classes in English with Group 365 of the School of Medicine. She actively participated in team discussions, expanded her professional network, and enhanced her communication skills.
At the final session, Head of the Department M.O. Dusmagambetov presented Katarina Kuzmanovski with a special certificate, confirming the successful completion of her internship. Expressing her gratitude, Katarina thanked the faculty and staff for their warm welcome, high-quality instruction, and the opportunity to gain practical laboratory experience.
