This historic event marks a significant achievement in the field of medical education in Kazakhstan.
By order of the Chair of the Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, for the first time in the country, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the educational program «Nursing Science» has been awarded to Alexandra Masharipova, a doctoral student of Astana Medical University.
She successfully completed her doctoral studies and brilliantly defended her dissertation on the topic: «Improving Palliative Nursing Care in the Republic of Kazakhstan».
The scientific research was conducted at the Department of General Medical Practice with a Course in Evidence-Based Medicine of NJSC «Astana Medical University» with the support of the “Kazakhstan Association for Palliative Care” (NGO). The scientific supervisors of the dissertation were: Nasikhat Kakimzhanovna Nurgaliyeva, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice with a Course in Evidence-Based Medicine, and Gulmira Azhmadinovna Derbisalina, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the same department.
The educational program «Nursing Science» was first introduced in Kazakhstan in 2020 as part of the reform of the specialist training system in the field of nursing. One of the key components of the program was the international Erasmus+ project AccelEd («Accelerating Master and PhD Level Nursing Education Development in the Higher Education System in Kazakhstan»), aimed at the development of nursing science, enhancement of research capacity, and modernization of healthcare management and practice, as well as medical education.
