Students from Leading Medical Universities Discussed the Prospects for the Development of Kazakh Traditional Medicine
The interuniversity discussion platform “The Impact of Kazakh Traditional Medicine on Modern Medicine” created a space for dialogue and exchange of ideas between students and faculty members of Astana Medical University and Karaganda Medical University. The participation in this discussion made a significant contribution to the development of important research skills among students, strengthened long-standing cooperation between the universities, and fostered patriotic education.

The event was attended by third-year students from Karaganda Medical University, under the guidance of Professor of the Department of Morphology Nauryzov N.N. and Assistant Professor Kayyrbekova K.K., as well as students from the School of Medicine at Astana Medical University under the mentorship of Professor of the Department of Human Anatomy A.B. Aubaquirov Suleimenova F.M. and Senior Lecturer Sagimova G.K.

In discussing the role of Kazakh traditional medicine today, the participants of the discussion spoke about the rich centuries-old history and provided information on the establishment of the Faculty of Kazakh Traditional Medicine at the Altai Medical College in 2010, and the Department of Kazakh Traditional Medicine at Xinjiang University (China) in 2011, along with the publication of textbooks. Additionally, polyclinics and hospitals for “Kazakh traditional medicine” have been built in the Ili, Tarbagatai, and Altai district centers of China. Private medical centers have also emerged, and some state hospitals have opened “departments of Kazakh medicine.” The “Xinjiang Center for the Study of Kazakh Traditional Medicinal Plants” was established. In 2014, Kazakh medicine was registered in China as the “Sixth National Medicine” and received a state certification of conformity.

Moreover, the main fields of medicine were discussed, including phytotherapy, acupuncture, pulse diagnosis, bone setting, massage, natural remedies, and others. The participants also recalled outstanding figures of Kazakh traditional medicine, who left a rich scientific legacy, including Al-Farabi, Oteboidakh Tleukabyly-uly, and Kurtka Sultankozha-uly.
