Astana Medical University hosted a training seminar for its teaching staff on the topic: “Methodology for the Development and Review of Multiple Choice Test Questions”. The purpose of the seminar was to enhance faculty competencies in creating high-quality assessment materials that meet modern standards of medical education.
The seminar was led by Kulsara Dosmambetova, Head of the Department for Knowledge and Skills Assessment of the National Center for Independent Examination (NCIE), a certified expert in academic achievement evaluation and the development of tools for assessing theoretical and practical knowledge.
The event was conducted in an interactive format using case-based methods, group work, and analysis of real test question examples. Participants had the opportunity to practice composing questions and tools for assessing theoretical knowledge. Current challenges faced by educators in the process of student knowledge assessment were also discussed.
Seminar attendees explored key topics in detail, including: principles of developing multiple choice questions (MCQs), common mistakes in test design and how to avoid them, methodologies for reviewing test questions with attention to validity and reliability, and more.
The organization of such events is an important part of the university’s strategic direction aimed at ensuring high-quality educational processes and alignment with international standards for medical training.
At the end of the seminar, 50 AMU faculty members received official certificates of completion.
