Astana Medical University hosted a motivational meeting with international para-cyclist Rakesh Banik – the first differently-abled athlete from northeast India to complete the grand expedition “From the Volga to the Brahmaputra”, covering more than 9,000 kilometers by bicycle.
During the meeting, Rakesh Banik shared his personal story, speaking about the challenges he faced after losing his leg. He admitted to experiencing fear and pain, but it was at that moment he decided to set a goal – to prove to himself and others that anything is possible. Despite the pain and a bleeding wound, he cycled 90 kilometers between two cities, completing a route that became his personal symbol of strength and determination.
“Set goals and go for them, even if you have to overcome pain and fear along the way”, – he told the students.
Rakesh Banik also emphasized the patriotic mission of his cycling expedition. He explained that he was born in Assam, India – a region known to many only for its tea – but he wanted to show how rich his country is in culture, nature, and spirit. That was the essence of his 9,000-kilometer journey – to tell the world about India and inspire young people to move forward.
Following his speech, the speaker answered questions from students. The meeting was held in English and served not only as a source of motivation but also as an opportunity for students to practice live communication skills.
