As part of the academic mobility program for international students, Laura Sorensen, a 4th-year student from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), completed an internship at the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova at Astana Medical University.

The training was made possible through the professional exchange program of the SCOPE Committee of the KazMSA organization.

A special calendar-based thematic plan for the discipline "Medical Microbiology" was prepared for Laura Sorensen by the department staff. The topics of the practical classes were dedicated to the study of bacterial morphology and physiology, as well as issues of infection and immunity. The classes were conducted by Professor Gulzhan Asemova, Senior Lecturers Madina Botbayeva and Aigerim Sarsenova.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, the student gained practical skills, including microscopic examination of bacteria. Laura conducted bacterial cultures on specialized nutrient media and studied their sensitivity to antibiotics. She was also introduced to “Mind Map” techniques and the method of reference signals.

At the conclusion of the internship, Laura Sorensen expressed her gratitude to the university administration for the warm welcome and professional training.
