The IX All-Russian Congress on Medical Microbiology, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of academician A.A. Kashkin, was held in Saint Petersburg at the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov.

The event brought together leading microbiologists, immunologists, and mycologists from Russia, the CIS countries, and Europe. Participants discussed key areas of medical microbiology, immunology, and clinical mycology — from diagnostics and epidemiology to the treatment of invasive and superficial mycoses.

The Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova of Astana Medical University was represented by the following participants:

·        Prof. Marat U. Dusmagambetov, MD, Head of the Department;

·        Prof. Nurgul M. Bisenova, ScD, Professor of the Department;

·        Prof. Asem M. Dusmagambetova, PhD, Professor of the Department;

·        Prof. Aigul U. Baiduissenova, PhD, Professor of the Department;

·        Assoc. Prof. Aigerim M. Utegenova, PhD, Researcher;

·        Nazerke S. Sutyimbekova, PhD student;

·        Alikhan A. Yktyyarov, PhD student.

Additionally, Prof. Marat Dusmagambetov served as moderator of the symposium “Tuberculosis: A Multifactorial Perspective on the Problem.” He delivered an oral presentation titled: “Species Composition and Antifungal Susceptibility of Candida spp. Isolated from Tuberculosis Patients.” His presentation generated considerable interest among Russian and international experts, including specialists from the Russian Ministry of Health's Center for Phthisiopulmonology and Infectious Diseases. As a result, professional contacts were established with departments and research institutes of microbiology from leading Russian medical universities, and a preliminary agreement was reached on the implementation of a joint research project within the department’s field of study.

Of particular importance was the II Russian-Kazakh Forum, held as part of the Congress, which featured 11 presentations. All were dedicated to priority issues in mycology, infectious pathology, antifungal resistance, and biosafety. The forum became a significant platform for strengthening scientific collaboration and academic partnerships between the two countries.

The participation of faculty members and PhD students of the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasova in such a prominent international scientific event highlights the high research potential of the university and contributes to the advancement of cross-border research initiatives.
