The “First Central Asia Summit of the International Bariatric Club on the Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Complications in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery” – First IBC Central Asia Summit & 70th IBC & Second IBC Central Asia Symposium – was held in the city of Aktau. This scientific platform brought together leading specialists from Kazakhstan, Russia, the United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Tajikistan.

The event was organized by Oral Ospanov, doctor of medical sciences and research Professor of the department of Surgical diseases, bariatric surgery and neurosurgery at NJSC “Astana Medical University”.

According to Professor Ospanov, bariatric and metabolic surgery is a relatively new area in surgery.

“We are currently seeing a significant number of surgical complications following operations. Therefore, we decided to unite efforts with bariatric and metabolic surgeons from Central Asian countries and adopt a Consensus on Surgical Complications. This includes prevention of postoperative complications, early diagnosis, and treatment. All of this is particularly important for improving clinical outcomes”, – noted the professor.

According to participants, the Summit served as a breakthrough platform for the advancement of bariatric surgery in Central Asia. The key outcome of the event was the adoption of an important document – the Consensus on Surgical Complications, which is expected to serve as a guiding framework for addressing numerous issues in the field of bariatric and metabolic surgery.
