A round table dedicated to the UNESCO World Bioethics Day was organized at the Department of Public Health and Management under the leadership of the Head of the Department, candidate of medical sciences, professor A.Turgambayeva, and doctor of medical sciences, professor B.Sarymsakova.
The event brought together faculty members, students, and international experts to discuss current issues related to teaching bioethics in medical universities of Kazakhstan. The central theme focused on the role of bioethics in shaping the professional culture of future physicians and promoting humanistic values in medical education.
International bioethics experts V.Sokolchik (Belarus), T.Kudaibergenova (Kyrgyzstan), Z.Mukhamedova (Uzbekistan), G.Usatayeva (Al-Farabi Kazakh National University), as well as representatives of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, faculty members, and students took part in the round table discussions.
Participants emphasized that bioethics is an integral part of 21st-century medical training, forming the foundation of humanism, professional responsibility, and the culture of making ethically sound decisions in medical practice.
As a result of the discussions, recommendations were developed to improve bioethics education, enhance digital learning resources, and establish a national collaboration network among Kazakhstan’s higher education institutions in the field of bioethics.
Special attention was given to student initiatives: as part of the round table, a student project competition was held, where third-year students of the “General Medicine” program presented their works addressing ethical dilemmas in modern medical practice.
It is worth noting that the course on bioethics has been implemented at the Department of Public Health and Management since October 2012. Since 2018, the department has been part of the network of units of the International UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at the University of Haifa (Israel), which contributes to strengthening international cooperation and fostering ethical culture in medical education in Kazakhstan.
