As part of the Summer School – 2026 program, the Department of Microbiology and Virology named after Sh.I. Sarbasov at Astana Medical University conducted an additional educational course entitled “Microbiomes in Everyday Life: From A to Z.”
The course was attended by Asylai Erdanatkyzy Moldabek, a 10th-grade student of the Kemel Bilim Boarding School in Aktobe. During the program, she became acquainted with the main areas of medical microbiology, studied bacterial morphology, their impact on the environment, the characteristics of microbial life activities, and modern approaches to determining bacterial susceptibility to antibiotics.
Under the supervision of the department’s faculty members - Professor Gulzhan Assemova, senior lecturers and master's degree holders Madina Botbayeva, Aikerim Sarsenova, Elmira Akimbekova, and Gulbanu Duissebekova - Asylai acquired practical laboratory skills. She performed microscopic examinations, learned techniques for inoculating microorganisms onto culture media, and carried out laboratory tests to determine bacterial susceptibility to antibiotics. In addition, she conducted a literature review on the effects of energy drinks and fast food on the human microbiome.
By combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience, the program enhanced the participant’s interest in science and helped her explore potential directions for her future professional development.
