May 25 - World Thyroid Day

World Thyroid Day was established in 2008 by the European Thyroidological Association (ETA), which studies issues related to the thyroid gland and its diseases.

Statistics from the World Health Organization show that from 10 to 30% of the adult population in the world have an enlarged gland as a result of iodine deficiency or suffer from other thyroid diseases. This figure increases by 5% annually.

According to the head of the Department of Internal Diseases with courses of Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Pulmonology, MD, Professor Bayan Ainabekova, Kazakhstan was no exception. The share of thyroid diseases in the structure of endocrine pathology is 22.3%. We can say that every fifth citizen of Kazakhstan has a thyroid dysfunction. These statistics are closely related to the geographical location of the country.

In order to prevent thyroid diseases, it is recommended:

Replenish the lack of iodine to prevent the development of its deficiency. Daily requirement: 100 – 200 mcg of iodine.

The use of iodized salt is an effective method of prevention, 1 gram of fresh iodized salt accounts for about 40 micrograms of iodine. There is also a high iodine content in fish and seafood.

Sea cabbage is a real storehouse of iodine, 100 grams of cabbage contains 500 micrograms of iodine and active substances that allow the body to absorb iodine.

It is important to monitor body weight, eat in accordance with energy costs.

Be physically active.
