For the first time this year, RBL SWOOT analysis elements were used

The Department of Children's Diseases with courses of Allergology, Hematology and Endocrinology of Astana Medical University (Head of the Department Professor Morenko M.A.) traditionally took part in the Summer School – 2022.

This academic year, university students were able to gain new knowledge, master skills and abilities by taking the course "Current problems of diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and blood systems in children from the perspective of practical medicine."

The classes were conducted by experienced teachers: associate professor of the department Galimgozhina N.I. and assistant Dudnik O.N. at the clinical bases in MGDB No. 1 and MGDB No. 2, as well as in the Educational and Clinical Center of the university. The course was attended by 4th and 6th year students of the Faculty of General Medicine, as well as residents of the specialty "Pediatrics". Successful completion of the course was completed with summing up and solemn presentation of certificates.

Constant adjustments to the Summer School Program, taking into account modern requirements for the training of a future doctor and the wishes of the students themselves, make it dynamic and relevant to the realities of the time. For example, this year classes on topical issues of pediatric hematology were additionally organized, while the organization of a "Round table" with the discussion "The Unknown about the known" aroused particular interest and active participation among the listeners.

In order to obtain the best learning efficiency, the principle of "Learning through practice" was observed with the active involvement of students themselves in the educational process. At the same time, non-traditional teaching methods were used, such as patient-replacement technologies with imitation of the corresponding conditions in respiratory diseases and requiring certain actions, CBL (case-oriented training), analysis of diagnostic errors according to clinical scenarios compiled from the real practice of a doctor, video/classes showing diagnostic skills with the participation of a standardized patient, prepared by the staff of the department. For the first time this year, elements of RBL (research–based learning) - SWOOT analysis were used. Special attention was paid to the curation of thematic patients with the analysis of the data obtained, diagnosis, as this part of the work actively contributes to the formation of skills and abilities, the development of clinical thinking. She also aroused the greatest interest among listeners.

The use of non-traditional methods in the educational process, as well as the development of practical skills in direct contact with real patients made the training interesting, exciting and effective. Positive feedback from students showed the need for such courses and are an incentive to continue working in this direction, expanding the range of topics of additional education.
