History
The Department of Master’s and Doctoral Studies was established in September 2010. Prior to that, it functioned as the Center for Postgraduate Education and later as a Research School. The department is an academic and administrative structural unit of the NJSC “Astana Medical University.”
On September 9, 2019, due to changes in the organizational structure and staffing schedule of the university, the Center for Postgraduate Education was reorganized into the Center for Master’s and Doctoral Studies.
On May 30, 2022, as a result of another restructuring and revision of the staffing plan, the Center was transformed into a Research School.
On June 2, 2025, following further organizational and staffing changes, the Research School was restructured back into the Department of Master’s and Doctoral Studies.
Objectives
The preparation of academic and professional personnel in master’s and PhD programs for the healthcare system of the Republic of Kazakhstan is carried out in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Education" in a full-time study format.
Key functions of the Department include:
-Strategic planning and development of master's and PhD educational programs;
-Organization and supervision of the educational process in master's and doctoral studies;
-Coordination of scientific research activities of master’s and doctoral students in accordance with individual study plans;
-Development of students’ skills in independent scientific and pedagogical work.

Master’s and PhD students actively participate in scientific and practical conferences, and regularly publish in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in the Sphere of Education and Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as in international journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science databases.
