The Chair of General and Biological Chemistry

Objectives 

- Improving the effectiveness of the publishing function of the educational and methodological process at the Chair;

- Improving interaction with school students in the field of applied research;

- The development of research work as an important part of the professional training of students in the activities of the staff of the Chair.

History of creation

In 1964, a group of graduates of the State Medical Institute in Almaty came to work at The State Medical Institute in Tselinograd. In the group were Lihodey S., Kalugin S., who took an active part in the formation and development of the Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry. In 1964 in TSGMI the Chair of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry,was organized. It was run by Radyuk M., c.ph.s., Pesahovich L. In the future, c.ph.s.,associate professor Chetverkin V. run the Chair from 1967 to 1986. From 1986 to 1996the Chair was run by the c.ch.s, associate professor Seytembetov T.

The team of The Chair of Biochemistry was formed with the active participation of the c.b.s, associate professor Lihodey S., From 1965 to 1974 the Chair was supervised by c.m.s, Zakharov V. 1974 to 1995 the Biochemistry Chair was run by Lihodey S. During this period, the Chair conducted research on the topic «The problem of thyroid pathology» and «clinical death and postresuscitation state» by the group of teachers from The Chairs of Chemistry and Biochemistry (Seytembetov T., Perchenko G., Bludova S., Sedlova M., Seytembetova A., etc.). In 1978, for an active teaching career Lihodey S., Perchenko G., Rebrikova were awarded badge «Excellent Health of the USSR».

A great contribution to the development of the Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry have heads Lihodey S., Zakharova V., Chetverkin V., Seytembetov T., Seytembetova A., Dalenov E.

In 1996, was carried out a reorganization of the Chairs and from 1996 to 1998, Chair of Medical Chemistry was headed by the d.m.s, professor Dalenov E. During this period many employees of the Chair were actively engaged in the problem of «pathochemical formation basics of a healthy lifestyle»

Since 1998, the Chair was headed by d.ch.s, professor Seytembetov T. From 2002 to 2011 the Chair of Biochemistry with general chemistry course is headed by d.ch.s, professor Seytembetova A. From 2011 to the present time the Chair of General and Biological Chemistry is head by d.ch.s, professor Seytembetov T.

Currently, a great contribution to the development of the Chair contribute d.ch.s, professor Seytembetova A., d.m.s, professor Almagambetov K., c.ch.s, associate professor Ismagulova N.,., c.ch.s, senior teachers Orazay P., Nurimbetova E., Madieva Sh., teachers Idyrysova A., Bazarkhankyzy A.,  laboratory assistants Esimseytova J., laboratory assistants Mombaeva S., Zhaksybayeva U. A certain function is performed by the staff, who combine the basic work at the university with teaching at the Chair, c.ch.s, associate professor Zeynuldina A., c.ch.s, associate professor Gabbasova A., associate professor Igenbaeva B., c.ch.s, associate professor Baykanova R., teacher Nurhan B.

Activities

Methodical work

The work of the Chair holds an important place training staff of the Chair of modern training and methodological material, corresponding to modern requirements of high school.

The Chair has the material - technical base, which allows toconduct classes at a level that corresponds to a modern requirements of high school. In order to expand international relations with educational and pedagogical centers of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries Chair invited leading professors to meetings with employees and students of JSC «MUA», our university students listened to lectures of Professor Robert Mark of the University named Diderot (France), professor of the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), etc.

Employees of the Chair developed a model curriculum in accordance with state educational standards in 2006 on the subject «Chemistry» on the specialty 051301 – «General Medicine», 051302 – «Dentistry», 051103 – «Pharmacy», 051102 – «Public Health» in the discipline «Biological chemistry» on the specialty 051302 – «Dentistry», 051102 – «Public health». 051301 – «General Medicine», 051104 – «Medical-preventive work» (2009.).

In order to form the fundamental knowledges of future specialists, employees of the Chair published textbooks in the state language «Biological chemistry», authors Seytembetova A., Lihody S., etc. Manual «Biochemistry in questions and answers», «tests and situational tasks Biochemistry», the authors Seytembetova A., Bludov S., reference «laboratory and functional indicators of a healthy person», the authors Dalenov E., Seytembetov T., etc. Textbooks «Chemistry» by Seytembetova T., «Biological chemistry» developed by Seytembetovym T., Tuleuovym B., Seytembetovoy A., these textbooks are the primary literature in the standard curriculum SES - 2006 to disciplines «Chemistry» and «Biological Chemistry» for all specialties of Kazakhstan medical universities. The textbook «Biochemistry» by Professor Severin E. translated and published in the official language under the editorship of Professor Seytembetova A.

Achievements

Research work

Currently, one of the priorities for the independent Kazakhstan, having the scientific and social importance is the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry. For more than 20 years with the scientists of «MNPH» Phytochemistry» (Karaganda) conducted research to determine the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity as an individual organic compounds, also herbal remedies. At present, the scientific direction of the Chair - is the study of the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of organic compounds and extracts of plants on the basis of Kazakhstan's various biochemical methods in vivo and in vitro. According to the results of research works carried out at the Chair, defended Seytembetov's T. and Seytembetova'sA.doctoral dissertation, PhD Mashentseva's A. doctoral dissertation , Ph.D. theses (Zeynuldina A. Ismagulova N. Kulyyasov A. Kazbekova A., etс.), and Moldabekova's K. master thesis. Over the years the staff of the Chair of widely conducted research on the topic «The problem of thyroid pathology», «clinical death and postresuscitation state», «Herbal preparations derived from plants of Central Kazakhstan and their biological activity».

The Chair has an agreement on scientific and methodological partnership with JSC «MNPH» Phytochemistry» (Karaganda), Chair of Chemistry of the Samara State Medical University, RSE «Republican Collection of Microorganisms», the Institute of Applied Chemistry ENU named Gumilyov L., etc. Master of Chair Moldabekov K. performed research on Grant «Young talants».

On the Chair is actively carried out research work with students. In recent years, students of the scientific circle of the Chair successfully made presentations at conferences in Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Stavropol, Samara, Tbilisi, Vilnius, and also participated in the annual conference of students of our university. Students and young scientists who are actively engaged in scientific work at the Chair, were awarded grants, prizes, certificates according to the results of the contest of scientific and technical creativity «Nobel Day» (2015.), Held in Karaganda State Medical University; competition of scientific and research works in the pharmaceutical field for the project «Academic Program SANTO» (2015.); Grant «Young talats» of JSC «Astana Medical University», annual competitions for young scientists and students of JSC «Astana Medical University».

Educational work

The educational and professional work for orientation of the Chair staff is actively cooperating with schools of Astana. Performs research projects, and in recent years, students of the scientific circle of the Chair visited in Russia, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Switzerland with reports, which were highly appreciated. Thus, a student of the 11th class of the Intellectual school in Astana Adekenova Kymbat received a medal «winner of scientific projects» for young researchers (St. Petersburg). In 2009, on the basis of the results of a comprehensive assessment of the activities of JSC «MUA» external expert commission by the National Accreditation Centre of Kazakhstan (NAC MES) with the participation of international experts Chair is recognized as one of the top five Chairs of the university.
