Department History
The Department of “Fundamentals of Medicine” was founded in 2019. From its inception, it has integrated both theoretical and clinical disciplines. The department teaches 1st to 3rd-year students courses such as “Introduction to Clinical Practice,” “Psychology,” “Fundamentals of Medical Practice and Communication Skills,” “Clinical Medicine,” and “Practical Skills Development in the Simulation Center.”
Objectives
The department plans, organizes, and implements educational, methodological, clinical, and educational work; conducts current, midterm, and final student assessments; and carries out research activities and the integration of innovative educational technologies.
Key Areas of Activity
Developing teaching materials, standard programs, and state educational standards projects;
Equipping students with knowledge, skills, and competencies in psychology, medical psychology, and healthcare communication;
Participating in social initiatives and scientific research;
Developing the department’s strategic directions and specialties;
Strengthening external cooperation with employers and educational authorities;
Enhancing internal quality assurance mechanisms for professional training;
Delivering all types of classes across different learning formats;
Maintaining electronic academic performance journals in line with teaching loads;
Conducting regular departmental meetings on teaching, clinical, and research topics;
Organizing academic and industrial internships for students;
Providing comprehensive methodological and organizational support for the educational process.

Student Achievements:
Students of the department actively participate each year in national and international student Olympiads and conferences, demonstrating a high level of knowledge and training.
At the International Student Olympiad in Basic Medical Sciences held at KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov, students of the “Fundamentals of Medicine” department won 7 prize places:
